Today a group of volunteers helped the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife stock 2800 spring yearling brown trout in an eight mile section of the Kennebec River. It's a simple yet more effective way to spread out fish throughout a river system than just dumping the truck at one or two spots. Common sense says it also saves on immediate predation, both by man and beast. The process consists of utilizing modified plastic floating totes which are secured to the sides of boats, then loaded with fish from the truck to move them down river. As we float along, we just dip out a few at a time therefore scattering them randomly throughout whole length of the river section. The 9 - 13 inch fish looked good and we hope to see them live long enough to grow to bragging size. Practice catch and release to see for yourself. ChrisFloat Stocking Program: Bucket Brigade
