Family fishing on the Kennebec

Blog Showcase Image:

Greg, Carmen, Andy and Jeff, were on a family vacation in Maine, They rafted with Northern Outdoors, then booked a 1/2 day fishing trip for Wednesday. The day turned out to be terrific, just a few clouds and temps in the 70's. Greg (Dad) and Jeff (son) fished with Chris, Carmen (mom) and Andy (son) fished with Mike. We didn't see a ton of action but did manage to land some nice fish using mepps spinners and grubs, including the one pictured. Fishing on the Kennebec river is not only a great way to spend a few hours outside but an incredible family activity, one everyone can enjoy.

Large smallmouth, salmon and rainbows on the Kennebec River

Blog Showcase Image:

We fished the Lower Kennebec River today, putting in at the Forks, Maine around 10:30. We fished for 2 hours and landed 12 smallmouth bass, 2 salmon and a rainbow trout. There seemed to be several salmon feeding on a BWO hatch around 12 noon. It was great to see consistent rises in the middle of the day. We caught one 12" salmon there and moved on to catch the smallmouth pictured.
Things are changing on the river. We are starting to see more and more salmon and even picked up a 12" rainbow. It keeps getting better.

Travel writer's triple header

Tracey, Owen and Mark from Dover, NH didn't let a little (ok alot) of rain get in the way of a great day of smallmouth bass fishing on the Kennebec River today. We ended up having to work pretty hard most of the morning to catch a few fish, but at one point we had them figured out and landed about a dozen in 15 minutes. We picked up three right as the heavy stuff started pouring down, and quickly rowed out to get dry and warm. Stage one hypothermia was starting to set in for most of us but the excitement of this triple header was enough to keep us warm until we got to the takeout. Tracey is a travel writer, so we look forward to reading her tales of rafting, fishing, hiking and kayaking while being hosted by Kennebec River Angler and Northern Outdoors. Chris

Kennebec river smallmouth bass fishing is still great!

Dana and Chaz fished with kennebec river angler this past Sunday. They had such a great day they decided to book another 1/2 day of fishing on Wednesday. The day started a bit slow, but we ended up with some respectable numbers for the morning. We stopped riverside and hiked up to Northern Outdoors for a hot lunch and to get out of the rain. Chaz and Dana decided to turn the 1/2 day into a full day, despite the rain. We had a busy afternoon and landed some nice bass, including the one in this picture. Chaz caught this 17" smallmouth on a jointed crankbait. Another great day on the river.

A banner day on the Kennebec River

Tewksbury Mass native Rick came to Northern Outdoors with a large family group and was initially going to fish with his daughter. A last minute decision on her part to go float the river in an inflatable kayak might have cost her one of the best fishing days of her life. By the end of a 4 hour trip, Rick had landed 20 fish including the nice smallmouth pictured. I'm sure she had a great day as well, but did she miss out on some fast fishing. Maybe she'll come along next year. This family did take in all the activities during their stay with Northern Outdoors, including a whitewater rafting trip on the upper Kennebec River. Bass fishing, Maine's Kennebec River

Blog Showcase Image:

Dana and Chaz were up from Connecticut for a vacation and decided last minute to book a half day bass fishing trip with Kennebec River Angler and Northern Outdoors. We fished from 10 to around 2:30, and caught a boat load of smallmouth bass. We even landed a few monsters coming in around 18-19", and lost one in the 20 to 21" range. Great day, tons of action. We used a combination of Mepps spinners, grubs, and jointed crank baits. We had the opportunity to fish low and high water levels on the Kennebec during the trip, both levels are fishing extremely well.

Kennebec 1/2 day fishing trip,

Blog Showcase Image:

Another great day on Maine's Kennebec River, or should I say half day. Our new 1/2 day trips have been very popular with the guests staying at Northern Outdoors.
Dave and Derek joined me for the lower kennebec river smallmouth bass trip this morning around 7:30 am, we were in the water around 8:00 and had our first fish by 8:10, and they just kept coming. Not only did we catch a bunch of Smallmouth bass, but Derek landed his FIRST FISH EVER !!! By the end of the day Derek was a pro at casting and 'hooked' for life. I am pretty sure we created another new fisherman today.
